33 Jahre Käfer IT – Darauf stoßen wir an!

English Version see below!

33 years of Käfer IT – Here’s to a toast!

When I started my self-employment in the IT world on 01.04.1990 with a trade licence in hand, I only had a rough idea of the professional and technological challenges that would await me in the years to come.

Today, on 01.04.2023 – and thus 33 years later – I look back with great satisfaction on what I have achieved. The 286 PCs that were still assembled in the youth room back then or the Amiga 2000 that was used to do the first graphics job have now become digital business models in virtual worlds. From PC sales, the business has changed to, among other things, the development and distribution of motion simulators for racing and flight simulations, and I was able to make a profession out of the long-pursued sim racing hobby with my label „Force2Motion“.

And then there was my engineering degree in information sciences at the FH Aachen, which I successfully completed alongside my self-employment and crowned with a master’s degree in digital forensics at the ripe old age of almost fifty. After many years of working as a publicly appointed and sworn expert for IT systems and applications, this was the next logical step. Since 2015, this has given rise to the constantly ongoing research work „Car Forensics“, in which I am able to reconcile two professions (IT and cars).

Numerous freelancers and permanent employees have accompanied my path and the one or other trainee has been „tormented“ by me. Sometimes, however, I have thrown myself into daredevil assignments at dizzying heights.

For a good five years now, I have rediscovered the ideal form of business for me – the one-man business – and once again only work myself, not all the time, but always with entrepreneurial curiosity for the next challenge and opportunity.

And today? Right now, I’m accompanying other companies in the role of project manager for larger IT projects ranging from data centre relocation to ISO 27001 certification or as an IT security specialist to safeguard against cyber attacks. It never gets boring and that’s a good thing.

If everything continues like this, I’ll be back in seven years with an update on my fortieth. I’m looking forward to it.

Yours, Thomas Käfer
